N-Compass has been engaged by the Ministry of Education to provide a comprehensive project management service for this project. The initial brief for the Koru School redevelopment project was for the replacement of three classroom blocks and an administration block due to weathertightness issues with a budget of $5.7m. Following extensive investigation into the problems and issues with the buildings at the school, the scope was increased to include a complete rebuild of the school at a cost of $20m+. The construction phase commenced at the end of 2015 and the overall project is expected to be complete in 2017 as per the current approved timeline.
Working with the Ministry's Design Compliance Framework documentation during the design process has given us in-depth understanding for future MOE projects. We also sought to add value during the project by taking an active part in the design process. This was achieved by regular liaison with the Ministry, the school and designers, interrogating design solutions and approaches to ensure that best value decisions are made and bringing the benefit of our experience and expertise to the table as necessary.
